Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Excellent night for me on Saturday performance wise....but otherwise a complete muppet!!

The good - brilliant night. A wedding reception for 175 in a decent hotel in Derby. They requested an hour of swing/jazz/rat pack, which went down really well, better than I thought it would. Came up through some Motown into 90's dance and it worked brilliantly...packed floor for most of the night.

The bad - for reasons I won't go into, I'm under a load of stress at the minute like I've never felt before. Have no idea when my last day off was....I'm guessing March. Anyway, like a moron, I put my "day job" work bag in the car...and forgot my star cloth, so had to do the gig with a white tablecloth over my stand, which looked hideous. Then, absolute horror, when unloading on Sunday, discover I've left my gigging laptop at the hotel!!! Fortunately, they have it safe, so off to pick it up in a mo!! Idiot!

Just got back from a children`s party.
70 little ones aged 4-11 , at a local school , it was brilliant , easy load in , not too much gear , 1 1/2 hours , a few games , chart music plus a few classics , I have been invited to do another 4 gigs there this year .
Only thing was , the headmistress really wanted 10 million PLI , I only have 5 , looks like the local education authority are now backing down to 5 million , 10 mil is a tad over the top , but I`ll be getting the SEDA one , so no problems.

Kipper time. Starting bad, getting worse. Eight piece band, no room, dodgy power, and as it's for Charidee, it's going to be a sprat to catch a mackerel. The host has just announced that the venue is going to be used for functions, and as I'm half a mile down the road, I'm going to be number one candidate for preferred status.

Told you the power was iffy. Me, the house lights, keyboard player, and band's frontline are all on the same supply. When it goes off, all we have is drums, guitar and brass. A fun night in prospect. If it goes off when I'm on, I'll turn the amps off, and have a kip.

Fantastic evening in a marquee with full use of the stately home.

Good one for me alongside a swing / jazz band at a venue I'd not been for a good year or so but they still remembered me, hopefully that was a good thing

Mainly modern tunes but some real classics like "Sweet Thang" Jonestown & Mantronix. The only bit of cheese that cropped up was Footloose where the Groom & Best man had a routine worked out.

With this particular venue the music has to be off at 1130pm. But you always get the one guest that thinks you were born yesterday. He came over at 11.15pm and said can I have a request to be told "Sorry" the B&G have picked the last 15mins of songs so I can't fit it in. He sent his Mrs over to ask for a request I told her same thing, he came back again and asked to see what the tracks were & said that I should drop Sex on fire and play Single ladies, again I said B&G's choice. He went off and guess what? Came back again and said the Bride has said I was to play his request However his "fail" was that I'd watched him and he never went near the Bride

Needless to say I finished with Sex on fire & Bryan Adams Heaven. Happy days
