Last night's gig was an 18th Birthday Party in Wookey Hole - Somerset.
Was in a bit of a muddy field with a not too sturdy marquee erected and also an inadequate power supply.
60 plus in attendance and was great night actually though had to do a few announcements when guests were getting a little to enthusiastic near my equipment. Finished the night with 'Mr Brightside' which brought the house down literally as the side of the marquee gave way from all the shoving and around 10 teenagers were deposited on the grass outside. An unusual way to end the night but they seemed to enjoy it!

Did a wedding last night using the venue installed gear but using my laptop and controller.
Very untidy booth and some gear that wasnt up to it or needs servicing.
No plugs that worked within easy access to the booth,no overhead lighting(worked from a dimmer switch),one of the channels on the mixer didnt work, the lighting controller(Mad)was crap, some of the lights had been unplugged and there were a few,all the amps which were on a mains switch had been individually turned off and the smoke machine didnt work.
I had a bit of an issue with the mixer which was partly my fault and one of my cables from the DJIO decided it didnt want to play.Good job I decided to go to the venue 4 hours before I was needed.
But the biggest disapointment was yet to come and for me it was devastating.
At our meeting the bride had requested Be Without You by Mary J Blige as the first dance.I had to download it from iTunes as I hadnt got it,in fact I downloaded the remix version as well.
Anyway got the guests all around the dancefloor introduced the couple and pressed play. They both stopped, turned and looked at me and said 'this is not the track we wanted'.Now for the life of me I cant tell the difference between the tracks on iTunes.
Luckily they took it well and the rest of the night went quite well with lots of requests and a reasonably busy floor of young people out to have agood time.
Packing away was a bit of a pain because of the lack of lights so i had to leave the disco lights on which as I said earlier were crap.Loading the car was literally done in pitch darkness.

Hiya Trev, that is why I use my own gear in there. On the stage at the other end the MAD panels work really well and there is enough light to see to strip and re-load out of the side door. I would not wish to even attempt to use the in house gear though whebn I do work ther I must plug into the multi-way snake cable to the booth and I always have their amps and speaker system on together with the lights.
However things may have changes somewhat since I was last there.

I generally refuse to use built-in kit and have actually lost the odd job because of it...mind you its always prior to the function on the site visit so never any let-downs.
The only one I used recently is the Grand in St Anns Nr. Blackpool, that wasn't too bad a system. Went to a club a few weeks ago where they had various kit set-up and an overhead gantary, apparently it stays set-up all the time and due to it being a big function there would have been not enough room for me to set-up on the floor in front of the stage so I declined it.

Hmmmm, seems to me that one or two guests were determined not to miss out on their beauty sleep.
