Good Gig, Bad Gig.

I did an 80's themed Birthday party last night.

Small pub function room - up three flights of narrow stairs! But luckily fire escape outside was easier than going through the pub (which was absolutely heaving with rugby fans). Bit treacherous on the way out though!

Room had been decorated really well with 80's inspired items, sweets and record covers.

As I said, it was a small room, it was packed with 40 people - for lighting I used a pair of Ego 2's, a pair of Ego 3's and an Invincibled - which was more than enough.

Sound - room had it's own system - four wall mounted speakers and phono inputs and master volume/zone selector on wall (tested it the week before - actually very good for the size of room.)

Everyone made the effort to come in 80's fancy dress (I did a Timmy Mallet sort of thing!) and I didn't stray from 80's music all night, not one request for anything different (in fact hardly any requests at all).

Birthday boy came as Adam Ant so lots of that played - and all the usual New Romantic, Rock and School Disco sort of tracks.

Only negative was at the end - due to finish at 12, about 11.45 client tells me that although the bar was shutting the landlady said they could stay in the room until 12.30 and would I mind playing a bit longer - no problem, everyone was dancing and I was thoroughly enjoying myself. Come midnight, landlady asks me to turn the music down, so I did, lower she said, lower, lower.....lower....eventually it was lower than I'd have it at home - killed the party dead and everyone was left wondering what was happening and asking me to turn it up!

Had a word afterwards and said of you're going to tell people they can stay until 12.30 then warn them the music is going to be very low - the response was 'but it's our neighbours who complain and our license' etc. No matter how I said it she just didn't understand why it was a bad idea for her to give the impression the party could continue until 12.30!

Agree. They should have told them that there was no rush to get out but that the music had to stop. You have my sympathy - as does everyone who was out in the snow last night. Actually GLAD to say I didnt have a gig last night.

Last night was my 1st gig since NYE. A Wedding at a venue just the otherside of Nottingham. To be honest as I hadn't gigged for so long I was a little nervous. I'd had a few warm up sessions during the week as preparation so knew all the techy stuff was fine

I'd met the couple before and gone through all the fine details with them and apart from the bit of snow and the howling wind on the load in all went well. First dance was Train-Hey Soul sister so nice and upbeat and set the tone for the night.

I'm pleased to report that Moves like Jagger - We found Love et al are still doing their thing and there was some cracking pre requests. My favourite of the night and something I can say I really can't remember playing for a very long time was Street Tuff by Rebel MC

We did finish a bit early (30 mins) as the majority of the guests had got a coach there and basically the coach company phoned the venue and said it's coming now or not at all.

Last tune of the night was Without You - David Guetta

Really good to be back in the saddle so to speak and looking forward to the remaining 68 Weddings for 2012.

Im home and totally amazed!
I really didnt feel like doing my regular
" In the Lounge with Davesounds " night tonight (sunday)
at my regular venue and when i arrived at 7.45 there was just myself
and the barmaid Debs in the building.We discussed what a crap night we were going to have as i set up then.....Bingo everybody came out tonight!
the place was busy as usual! ... must have been the beer!


so much to my utter amazement Bad weather but Good Gig!!!!
Just talked to Mrs Sounds she recons the pensioners were saving heating costs being in the club!

Carriage Hall in Plumtree. Was a good night. Don't do many there (3 in 2011) but when I do they're always top nights.

i was trying to load the next track, nothing happened. then i noticed that virtual dj appeared to be frozen. The music played on but i couldnt do anything to get the next song ready.

I used ot have that sometimes with my 00DJ if I load a song longer than about 8mins, did it once for a 80th and they wanted to end with the national anthem. Stuck on a long version of some song and then cued up the national anthem, went to slide it across and nothing happened ! Lucky for me they decided to sing it accapella ! Used a portable DVD player as back up after that

I'm there next month, but I don't really like the place. Don't you think it's too big and 'open'. I've had some good nights there but you need a decent amount of people to make it look 'fullish' - if that makes sense!

I know what you mean. We did have around 100ish guests and the only time there weren't many dancing was when I was beaten by the buffet or they'd gone outside for a Snowball fight

Even managed to get them dancing on the mezzanine deck

Looks like a good night. I guess you can't moan about the load in.

I was last there in August. It was a brilliant night apart from my sub blowing up which sounded like a firework display during the first dance. Tad embarrassing.

I wouldn't mind a few more gigs there because the location is great. I'm only 10 minutes down the road but I believe they have a regular jock there who they're happy to recommend. Boo hoo!
