To be fair, it was a cheap tartan fancy dress thing from Amazon with something resembling a dead hamster as a sporran. It was so cheap and thin, I have to admit to wearing shorts underneath it (which a lot of the others that were wearing them weren't as was proven too many times to recount during the evening as the lubrication started to kick in! ).

I couldn't possibly do it the honour of calling it a kilt.

Wedding last night at a hotel in Winchester - bride and groom had requested 80's and 90's with some up to date ones, so I was looking forward to it.

"throw enough coconuts and you win a prize" as it turned out, as people were on and off the dance floor all night. One of the ushers came over for a chat at one point and as we were chatting he asked what was next - I explained what I was thinking of and what the other options were - most amusing as he looked at me and said "this is quite stressful really isn't it!".

First night using a new controller and although I'd been testing it for ages and was happy there is always that bit of anxiety, so the back-up was close to hand !

Last half hour the guests had all come to life and the dancefloor was packed, apart from the younger ones who sat there videoing their parents on their phones with looks of complete horror !

Finished at midnight and started taking the equipment out with my trolley only to realize the rooms were just above me and the block paving was making a horrendous noise - so decided to carry the stuff from the door. Decided I need to get to the gym a bit more, then went for some food on the was home !!

I've resisted the urge to give any whimsical answers, so to be serious, unless the happy couple really know their guests well, and their musical tastes, instructions like that have the potential for alienating all the over 50s. Now if 90% of the guests are of an age with the happy couple, there may be no problem.

I had a groom who was pointed towards me by Martin ( too far North for him in winter. ) who was insistent in the types of music he wanted playing, but always considerate towards his guests. We sketched out a running order which roughly went Chart, Tamla, NS, and finish with Indie. Apart from having to slot in short Chart and Tamla sets for those who were having the buffet at the time, it ran to plan, and worked a treat. I had an absolute ball, and the guests enjoyed it too.

Ah yes but how did it go? What happened?

Well, when her type of music was playing she either danced alone or was trying to persuade someone to join her. When that failed, she left the room and I reverted to plan B.

Motown, 80's and 90's ruled and she was nowhere to be seen. Still got a thank you off her at the end of the night.

Groom disappeared shortly after the first dance and buffet and was described by a friend the following day (who was invited but did not go by the way) as a complete knob.

Usual thing for me.....Great wedding resulting in me buzzing so I can't get to sleep and I am up early with a long day ahead hence I'll be knackered for tonight's wedding but hey, I guess after all this time it's still a good thing eh?

Last night's wedding was at my main residency and was for an older couple. Met them last week and went over everything and they were really easy to get on with. The Groom was pretty laid back but the Bride was very nervous about everything. They'd had some issues along the way with other suppliers (chair covers supplier) which had really got them wound up and I did my best to assure them that everything would be ok in the end.......and it was.

Couldn't set up until after the speeches for this one and I had uplighting to put in too so it was a bit of a mad rush but I did it really quickly and still had time to spare. When the Bride entered the room she came over and hugged me and was a bit tearful as she was so happy at the transformation.
Lots of dancing before the cutting of the cake and lots of requests from the legion of kids and teens there gave the impression that it was going to be a good night.
This continued all the way up until around 10.30pm with a busy dance floor of people dancing to current chart and mid 80's dance (Jocelyn Brown, Luther etc).

Around 10.30pm a lot of people left with their kids and so it felt like I was playing to around 30 people but they were loving it. A few dance tunes were put on and the Bride was really going for it and before we knew it, it was time for the last song (Grease - We Go Together) which went down really well. At the end of the night the Bride & Groom couldn't thank me enough and as I was packing up people were coming over and thanking me for a good one.

Tonight's wedding should be a belter as it is a great request list and the Bride & Groom and a number of their guests used to go to my Alternative nights regularly back in the day. They're really looking forward to it.
